Physician resume example
A strong physician summary reads like this. Swap in your own numbers and settings:
Board certified internal medicine physician with eight years of inpatient and outpatient practice. Currently a hospitalist at a 300 bed community hospital, carrying a daily census of 15 to 18 patients and handling admissions, rounding, discharges, and cross cover. Comfortable in Epic and Cerner, with active licenses in two states. Looking for a hospitalist or primary care role with a stable schedule.
Skills recruiters search for
These are the terms recruiters and ATS filters look for on a physician resume. Use the ones that are true for you:
How to list your credentials
Put MD or DO after your name. List board certification with the specialty and each active state medical license on its own line in a credentials section, and name the state for every license.
Resume tips for physicians
- Physicians usually need a CV and a resume. Keep a full CV for hospitals and academic roles, and a shorter two page version for everything else.
- Put licensure and board status near the top. Recruiters check it first because credentialing timelines drive start dates.
- Give numbers for your practice. Daily census or panel size tells a recruiter more than any adjective.
- List your EMR systems by name. Epic experience is a search filter for a lot of recruiters.
- Account for every gap since residency. Credentialing will surface them anyway, and a one line explanation saves a phone call.
- Skip duties every physician has. Name your case mix and the procedures you actually do.
