Patient Care Technician resume example

A strong patient care technician summary reads like this. Swap in your own numbers and settings:

Patient care technician with three years on a 32-bed med-surg telemetry floor, usually covering 10 to 12 patients a shift. CNA and CPCT/A certified, EKG trained, and comfortable with blood draws. I chart vitals, intake and output, and safety rounds in Epic without falling behind. Charge nurses pull me for the heaviest assignments because my documentation holds up.

Skills recruiters search for

These are the terms recruiters and ATS filters look for on a patient care technician resume. Use the ones that are true for you:

Vital signsEKG and telemetry monitoringPhlebotomyBlood glucose checksFoley catheter carePatient transfers and mobilityADL assistanceIntake and output documentationHourly roundingFall preventionEpic chartingWound care assistanceCode response supportBLS certification

How to list your credentials

List your CNA with the issuing state and your CPCT/A or other tech certification in a certifications section with expiration dates. Put BLS there too, since most hospitals require it.

Resume tips for patient care technicians

  • State your floor type and patient ratio up front. 'Med-surg tele, 10 to 12 patients' is the first thing a nurse manager wants to know.
  • List every clinical skill you are signed off on. EKGs, blood draws, Foley care, and glucose checks each match a keyword search.
  • Name your EMR. Epic or Cerner experience saves the unit training time and recruiters filter on it.
  • Keep CNA, CPCT/A, and BLS in their own certifications section with expiration dates. Missing dates get resumes set aside.
  • If you float between units, say which ones. Float experience reads as flexible staffing to a hospital.
  • Mention safety results if you have them, like fall-free stretches on your assignments. Safety is what managers get graded on.
